A BIG WELCOME TO ALL YOU NEW NURSING STUDENTS AT THE DERBY CENTRE FROM THE SUNAMA TEAM DERBY
DEAR STUDENT,
First of all a big hello and welcome to you! Shortly you’ll be joining a whole bunch of new folks starting an exciting and challenging new course……. but have no fear the Students Union is here!!
SUNAMA or the Students Union Nursing And Midwifery Association are here for you! We represent the University of Nottingham Students Union for the student nurses and midwives based at the Derby Centre. We have close links with the main campus at Nottingham and other centres.
Are you with me so far?! Our aim is to support you guys throughout your training, we organise social events (not just alcoholic ones!), charity events, welfare guidance and more. You automatically become a member of the Students Union when you enrol so don’t worry about how to join us just get involved!
I think that’s enough for now, in your first week you’ll meet loads of new friends and you’ll be bombarded with information but just remember everyone is in the same boat! We’ve been through it and we’ve survived! The student’s union is run for students by students so come and grab us for a chat if there's anything your not sure of! The main thing is don’t stress just enjoy it!

- To develop and maintain peer welfare and support structures for our members
To encourage effective communication between, you our members, the Students' Union, the University and our local community- To provide social opportunities and events for our members
Who Is A Member Of SUNAMA And How Much Does It Cost To Join?
- As an Associated body of the Students’ Union all students who fall under our remit (i.e. University of Nottingham students based in Derby) are automatically free members of SUNAMA. We do charge a small fee for most of our social events though to cover costs and to raise money for projects designed to benefit our members.
