The Executive - Representational Associations Officer
Will Cooling
Course: Third Year Politics
From: Leicester
Description of job: The Representational Associations Officer is based in Student Activities and is responsible for supporting students groups that represent and support minorities or other discriminated/marginalised groups within the Students’ Union.
Aims: Last year, the Students’ Union made some progress with regards to Representational Associations; with Students with Disabilities being revived and Women’s Campaign finally being made a Representational Association. I want to continue this progress by working towards securing representation for all students who belong to a minority or another marginalised group.
I want to increase the numbers of students who get involved in the Representational Associations. I will do this by working to improve the visibility of the various Representational Associations by giving them better support when it comes to publicising themselves and the services they offer their members. I will also offer them better support when it comes to holding elections and social events and ensuring that such events are fully accessible to all their members. I will also be working with the Representational Associations to help them serve their students on inter-site campuses.
Lastly, I will be working to secure better resources for the Representational Associations; this includes extending the STARS training scheme to the Representational Associations, giving them improved workspace and bringing in external experts to help them develop.
