Course Reps

Be a Course Rep

Welcome, welcome my (potential) Course Rep amigos. This is a bit of an info page about being a Course Rep, a life-altering decision if ever I saw one...

The role of a Course Rep.

This role enables you the student to maximise your campus cool and get to know some people in high places within your department and meet some kids in the Students' Union. Always a joyous prospect..

The role of a course rep is to sit on student-staff consultative committees (SSCCs) that exist within all Schools at the University of Nottingham. It will be your duty to attend an SSCC meeting each semester and represent the students on your course on any problems that they may have. After sitting on this committee you'll have to feedback the positives and negatives about your course and what YOU would like to be done about it to your course mates, assuming they are not a figment of your imagination.

It's ALL about the representation..flex your right to a voice an opinion. It makes a difference, and if there is a problem then the Education Officer can take it up at every necessary level to make sure something is being done about it.

Power to the students.

All good, but what's in it for me, wise guy?

You will be given the opportunity to enhance/gain the following skills

  • Problem solving
  • Effective planning and public speaking
  • Communication
  • Presentation skills
  • Formal decision making (feeling the power yet?)
  • Negotiation skills - Leadership

These just happen to be the skills that employers look for and should give you the edge over other students. Obviously wearing that pink and yellow bikini we all own to the formal interview in the City will no doubt help.. Seriously though (dunno how often that delusion occurs in your life), to employers you will able to show that you are excellent at representing large groups of people, communicating to people, influencing committees, work effectively and make decisions in a productive manner. Wish we could all say that.

I love it! How do I become a course rep?
