Committees / Environment and Social Justice Committee
The Environment & Social Justice Committee is a standing committee in the University of Nottingham Students’ Union. Our role is to act as the conscience of the Students’ Union. Our objective is to make students more ethically and environmentally aware, and to get the university to accept its responsibilities as a major player in the community.
As a committee we plan projects and events through weekly meetings. These are chaired by the E&SJ Executive Officer, who is also responsible for liaising with and communicating our campaigns and actions to the other 12 members of the Students’ Union Executive Committee, the university and to external bodies. Both the officer and the committee members are elected positions but there is always an open door for those with the drive and ideas to make things happen.
In 2006-07 we hope to develop a clean investment policy for the University and raise students’ awareness of where their tuition fees go and how they can bank more ethically. We will continue to uphold and strengthen our position as a Fairtrade University and increase the range of ethical alternatives available to students at every level. We plan on improving recycling and transport facilities both on and off campus. We also hope to work with and further involve Nottingham council and local community groups in our campaigns. This will need a strong team behind it so if you're interested in being involved with the most progressive and active committee in Nottingham then contact us
